In memoriam
In the morning of April 30th Johan van Es died.
He has given a very valuable contribution to this website. He was ill and knew he would not live much longer, but he wanted to use his last years for giving still as much as he could to a better world. Among other activities he offered us to help improving the English on this site and to translate texts. Most of the English texts on this site are his translations.

He had spent much of his life fighting apartheid, in his last years he was fighting the destruction of the natural environment. In his own region he helped re-introducing endemic species of trees and shrubs, by growing seedlings in his backyard to be planted in the natural environment.
We will miss his work, but his contributions to this website will stay as a modest monument for him.
